DIY Letter Donuts

I have been loving letter donuts for the longest time. They're so cute to gift someone on their birthday or as a congratulations gift, but they are hard to come by. There's several donut shops around here but only one of them makes letter donuts and you have to order far in advance. So I set out to figure out how to DIY letter donuts at home. It's actually easier than I thought and it works! You'll need cake donut mix {or regular cake mix works too} and this pan. Tip: to save time you might want to order 2 pans if your name or phrase has repetitive letters.

The most important part of DIY letter donuts is spraying the letter donut pan reallyyy well with some sort of cooking spray, I used coconut oil spray from Trader Joes. Mix your donut or cake mix according to the directions on the box. Then, scoop the batter into a gallon sized ziploc bag and snip off the corner of the bag. Carefully fill each letter that you'll be needing about 3/4 full. I baked them the same amount of time that was recommended on the box but check them frequently, as ovens can vary. They are done when they bounce back when you press them or you can dip a toothpick in to see if it comes out clean.

Once the donuts are done, let them cool in the pan. It's so tempting to try to pop them out early but don't! After they cool, flip over the pan and very carefully push on the back of each letter to pop them out. You'll notice that they don't lay flat so you will need to take a knife and carefully slice off the top layer. Then you can dip the front sides in icing. If you are using cake mix you can try this donut glaze recipe. Immediately after glazing, add your sprinkles before they dry.
